Jerry Moffatt (1963-)
From brat prat to cool cat
Although its hard to believe, the Porsche-racing, bare-torsoed,
semi-ironic narcissist Moffatt earned his original reputation as a bold
traditional climber and scarily competent soloist. Aged just 18, he climbed
Little Plum at the Derbyshire limestone cliff of Stoney Middleton,
then regarded as the hardest rock climb in the country. In the early 80s
he was seen as the main contender among those queuing to snatch Big Ron
Fawcetts crown as King of British Climbing.
